Title: Development of a performance-based assessment to measure executive functions in patient with stroke
Outline
1. What are the influences of executive dysfunctions in patients with stroke?
2. What are the current common measures of testing executive functions and flaws of these measures? (pen-and paper/tabletop assessment vs. performance-based assessment)
3. Why performance-based EF measures are preferred?
4. The purposes of the study are (1) to develop a performance-based EF measure for the patients with stroke (called as "the Performance-based Assessment of Stroke Executive Functions, PASE), which overcomes the flaws; and (2) to validate the psychometric properties of the PASE.

Performance-based assessment

當初在Gillen (2009)的著書上看到"function-based assessment of executive functions",於書上沒有任何有關"function-based"的解釋或說明。可是Gillen有解釋top-down approach vs. bottom-up approach、及performance-based assessment vs, pen-and paper/tabletop assessment。
使用subjective ADL items 指的是 performance-based assessment,使用objective ADL items 指的是self-report or proxy report。
(Douglas, et al., 2007)
(1) bottom-up approach: assessment of cognitive components; identified deficits.
(2) top-down approach: assessment of function; predicted function.
(Gillen, 2009)
(1) performance-based assessment: test items use common daily functional activities
(2) pen-and paper or tabletop assessment: test items are nonfunctional tasks, such as copying geometric forms, creating pegboard constructions, constructing block designs, matching picture halves, performing drawing tasks, sequencing pictures, remembering number strings, performing cancellation tasks, identifying overlapping figures, and completing body puzzles.
(Goverover, et al., 2005)
(1) subjective reports: self-report or proxy reports
(2) objective observation or direct assessment of performance: performance-based assessment

Comments in the writing course (1/12)
1. Outline
4. Function-based assessment
(2) 描述評估工具時,假如為普通名詞,要使用a,而非the,例如:a function-based EF measure。
